Transcript of Mountain Erosion

What is Mountain Erosion?
Mountain erosion is...
In my community back in 2007 there was a hole in the zone 6 of Guatemala city, it was caused by soil erosion. The soil erosion was caused because it was raining and they have a bad drainage system in the area.
Soil erosion problems in my community
Erosion is the process that breaks things down. Erosion is the breakdown of the continents and the land around. All the effect of breaking down and weathering the land is called denudation. Denudation is the process of erosion. Weathering and erosion happens in a downhill direction.

Differences speed in water runoff.
Small concentration is healthy and helps the plants to grow
But higher concentrations of water can wash the minerals and take away the nutrients and hurt the plantations. There are some cases in which it takes out the fertilizers that have been added to plantations. So adequate amounts of water helps vegetation, but higher concentrations of water, washes the soil and prevents vegetation to grow.
Cities are growing and nowadays areas that used to be vegetation are now populated. But due to higher population and development of cities has left us with the challenge to managed increased water runoff mainly caused by rain.

Potential solutions to propose to the City Council:

One solution that could be to implement permeable pavement.
When the mountain is steeper
erosion happens more often.

Another example of Soil eroded in my community is: San Cristobal Zona 8 Mixco.

What happened in Cambray is also an example of soil erosion.

In here erosion would happen less often

What can we do to stop the accidents that happen by soil erosion?
What we could do is to make tunnels, so the mountain stay how it was and the would not be steep. Also we should not make cities near mountain, because we can do whatever we want to try to fix it, but it still will be dangerous. Three examples are already in this presentation but we are going to tell you again the examples.
