5 quick facts about South Africa
Who is Nelson Mandela??
Mr Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th in 1918. Growing up he listened to his elder's stories about their ancestors being struggle free and he wanted to own his contribution. He had good grades through out school and made it to uni but didn't get a degree because he spent a lot of his time protesting against the government about apartheid (meaning separating black people from white people, separating couloured, asians and indians too.) The government saw this as treason and he was sent to jail in 1964 at the age of 46 for his life. while he was in jail the black people protested about apartheid but the white people crushed them. Many people in South Africa even around the world protested to let Mr Mandela out of prison. unfortunately the people in south Africa would have been beat up for the protest. Eventually the message of letting nelson Mandela got to the president of South Africa at that time and Nelson Mandela was released. After he got released there was a mascot witch made him mad and wanted to become the next president of South Africa to stop all of this including apartheid and bring peace to this country. He got voted and became the next South African President. His voice got heard all around the world about stopping apartheid and soon apartheid stopped. He received a Nobel peace Award for his part in stopping apartheid in South Africa and his truthful commitment towards bring peace back to South Africa and Stopping conflicts. He died last year on December the 5th at 8:50pm 2013.
