When all individuals have adequate resources to obtain appropriate foods for a nutritious diet. Access depends on income available to the household, distribution of income within the household and the price of food.
When food is properly used, with suitable food processing and storage practices, good knowledge and application of nutrition and child care, adequate health and sanitation services.
Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preference for an active and healthy life.*

Impacts of food insecurity
Food has a vital role, it impacts everything, every relationship, every opportunity, every structure of our society
895 million people or 1 in 8 people are not getting the nutrition they need to be healthy and safe.
852 million of these people are in developing nations
What can be done about issues of food security?
When households must be able to withstand shock. Risks can be environmental, market, political, social or health-related.
