Doris Miller was a third class chef but that doesn't mean he only have to cook. He didn't only cook he saved lives, he was the hero of pearl harbor.
Doris returned to West Virginia and was serving in that battleship when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. Miller had risen at 6 a.m., and was collecting laundry when the alarm for general quarters sounded.

At 5:10 a.m. on 24 November, while cruising near Butaritari Island, a single torpedo from Japanese submarine I-175 struck the escort carrier near the stern.

Doris Millers Life Began
Doris was a third class on a navy ship. But before his life on the ship he lived with with his dad who owned a farm. he would help his dad with the crops every once and a while.
Doris Miller had an advantage he had been ordered to help wounded soldiers, he was then ordered to help the wounded captain and get him to safety.

Doris was born on October
12, 1919. He was born in the state of Texas. He was born to Henrietta and Connery Miller, he also had three brothers and one sister, Doris was the middle child.

Doris went on deck again and got a 50 caliber browning anti aircraft gun and shot it four 15 minutes until it ran out of out of ammo. Doris was then ordered to abandon ship. When Doris miller had gotten to land he was awarded the navy cross for being heroic and for saving lives.

The war ship started to sink, but within minutes it sunk. Most people got off of the ship but Doris wasn't one.Listed as missing from the ship. He was eventually presumed dead, on November 25, 1944. Doris miller had died on November 25, 1944 it was a sad day for his family.
