It does not release any waste or green house gases into the atmosphere and in return uses excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
It also releases oxygen gas which supplies obligate aerobes and facultative anaerobes with an abundant supply of oxygen Artificial Photosynthesis Natural photosynthesis is highly efficient. The light reactions can convert around 40% to 50% of sunlight into energy. Dark reactions are not energy efficient as it requires energy in order to operate and produce food for the plant or organism. Artificial photosynthesis will be highly effective. Artificial photosynthesis mimicks light reactions. Has a maximum efficiency of 40% to 50%. Usually, an efficiency over 15% is practical. Optimism “Research in artificial photosynthesis is picking up steam, but it won't be leaving the lab any time soon. It'll be at least 10 years before this type of system is a reality. And that's a pretty hopeful estimate. Some people aren't sure it'll ever happen. Still, who can resist hoping for artificial plants that behave like the real thing” (http://science.howstuffworks.com)? “Research is still being performed in the field of artificial photosynthesis, especially in pursuit of finding better catalysts and energy transport mechanisms. While they are not the most effective form of energy production available, there is great interest in them still because of their high potential yield, low manufacturing cost and possible implications for the environment. If artificial photosynthesis could be made accessible and reliable, the world's dependency on nonrenewable fossil fuels could be greatly reduced” (wisegeek.com). Overall? Yes. This technology will help resolve environmental issues such as global warming A long-term solution for producing energy when the earth’s supply of fossil fuels becomes depleted Has a high potential energy yield. It can reduce the amount of green house gases in the atmosphere. With a few more years of research, artificial photosynthesis could become a successful and widely used technology. How Does it Make Society "Greener"? It can immediately convert and store solar energy as fuel or electricity. It releases oxygen into the atmosphere and uses carbon dioxide. This technology is non-living, it does not compete with other plants for resources such as water and minerals. It helps to rid of carbon dioxide and release oxygen without consuming valuable resources.
