The purpose of the laptop is to provide people with the abilities of a desktop computer but in a smaller, portable device. Laptops are categorized as information and communication as well as production.
When laptops were originally invented, they were used for a smaller, portable computer, and are still used the same way today.
Science- Discovery of computers and the fact small computers still do the same things desktops do.
Technology- Creating a smaller, portable computer device.
Engineering- Designing a device to do the same thing as a desktop but in a smaller shell.
Math- What is the optimal length, width, height, and volume of the device?
The original inventor of the laptop was Adam Osborne, who created the 'Osborne 1', the first laptop, in 1981. However, the first idea for a portable computer came from Alan Kay in 1968.
People have been able to use laptops and carry all their files and information with them. They can go anywhere and, with a laptop, you can use the internet and functions of a computer without having a stationary desktop, enabling you to work anywhere you want.
Because companies keep innovating and inventing new laptops, more and more people are choosing laptops over desktops, meaning companies that make only desktops are quickly loosing money as they loose business to companies that make laptops.
Laptops have been innovated with the features to do more things, ex. run more programs and run faster while still minimizing in operation system size. They've enabled the screens to be much larger in size and be higher in definition.
"Technology makes everyone feel old. A laptop is old after two years. Someone always has something newer. Everyone seems to feel obsolete now, even the young."- Jennifer Egan
Most products are innovated to make products better and to make people's lives easier, simpler. If I was given the choice, I was innovate a spiral notebook, because that is something I use daily not only at school but at home as well. I would change it so when there is only a few pieces of paper left, the spiral wire can't get bent and fold the last pieces of paper.
