- God's gift to all people is love

- We all need to develop and grow in God's love
Key Points
God's love found in the bible
God's love is everlasting, permanent and never forgets.

We can find examples of this in the bible;

Everlasting
– for it never ends or tires or weakens over time
“...But in everlasting love I have taken pity on you, says the Yahweh, your redeemer”.
[Isaiah 54:8]

Permanent
– for it remains forever
For the mountains may go away and the hills totter, but my faithful love will never leave you, my covenant of peace shall never totter, says Yahweh, who takes pity on you.
[Isaiah 54:10]

Never forgets
– God could never forget a single human person
Can a woman forget her baby at the breast, feel no pity for the child she has borne? Even if these were to forget I shall not forget you.
[Isaiah 49:15]

God's gift of love
God has given people the gift of love.
They can use this to show God’s love to others.
God loves people and as people grow in their relationship and love of God they come to know God better.
God is love and love is God’s gift.
God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him..
[1 John 4:16]

...the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.
[Romans 5:5]
Chapter One
7.4 Living in God’s Love

The gift of love
Developing and growing in God's love
Genuine love
is the personal commitment to always want what is good for others.

Genuine love calls people to:
 recognise the equal dignity of others
 show respect for everyone
 consider others and their needs
 strive towards providing for others
 give priority to the needs of people over material and other considerations

JOURNAL ENTRY
Think about a time when you genuinely wanted what was good for another. Write your answer in your journal.
Developing and growing in God's love
Concern for the good of others
motivates people to love others even when it is difficult or dangerous to do so.

There are many examples that show how people place love for others before themselves:
e.g.
 family members putting the needs of others before their own
 surf life-savers ensuring the safety of others
 police and firefighters risking their lives to keep the community safe
 soldiers risking their lives for the sake of bringing about peace
 special emergency services
