Definition of Ikhfaa
Linguistic: to cover/hide

Technical: To distort the Noon Saakina or Tanween when a letter of Ikhfaa comes after it while performing ghunna.

There are 15 letters of Ikhfaa:

Saad, Dhaa, Thaa, Kaaf, Jeem, Sheen, Qaaf, Seen, Daal, Taa (round), Zaa, Faa, Taa (light), Daad, and Zhaa.

Examples:
Ahkaam Meem Saakina
Whenever there appears a Meem Saakina then there are only 3 Tajweed rules you can apply:

1. Idghaam Shafawi

2. Ikhfaa Shafawi

3. Idhaar Shafawi
1. Idghaam Shafawi
You perform this when the letter meem comes after Meem Saakina.

It is an idghaam that is pronounce with a ghunna.

Examples:
2. Ikhfaa Shafawi
You perform this when the letter Baa comes after Meem Saakina.

It is an ikhfaa that is pronounce with a ghunna.

Examples:
3. Idhaar Shafawi
You perform this when any other letter besides Meem or Baa comes after Meem Saakina.

It is an idhaar that is pronounce WITHOUT a ghunna.
