An Examination Of Celestial Objects In Our Solar System
Mars
The diameter of Mars is 6792 km
Saturn
Saturn is 1.43 billion km from the sun
Neptune
Neptune is 4.5 billion km from the sun
The Sun
The Sun's mass is 1.989E30 kg. The E stands for exponential which means you would move the decimal to the right 30 times. It is approximately 330,000 times the mass of the earth
The Suns diameter is 1391980 km
It is 109 times bigger than the earth. ( You could fit 109 earths inside the sun)
The Suns mass consists of hydrogen, while the rest is mainly helium
The Suns surface temperature is 5505°C
The sun is 149 600 000 km from the earth
Everything moves around the sun but the sun orbits around the center of the milky way galaxy. It takes 226 million years to go around the galaxy once
Mercury
The diameter of mercury is 4879 km
The temperature of mercury ranges from -173°C at night to 427°C during the day
It's similar makeup to the earths moon meaning it is geologically inactive. Meaning no one and nothing lives there. It is just dirt
The mass of mercury is 328.5E21 kg
It rotates 3 times for every two revolutions it makes around it's orbit. If i was on mercury i would only see one day every two years
Mercury is 77 million km from earth
It is the first planet next to the sun
Venus
Earth
Jupiter
Uranus
The diameter of Venus is 12100 km
The mass of Venus is 4.867E24 kg
The diameter of earth is 12742 km
The mass of earth is 5.972E24 kg
The mass of mars is 639E21 kg
The diameter of Jupiter is 139822 km
The average surface temperature is 462°C. * Hottest planet in the solar system
Venus is primarily made up of rock, dust and has an atmosphere of 96% carbon dioxide
Venus is the closest planet to earth
In its movement it takes 224 earth days to orbit the sun
It rotates in the opposite direction of earth
Mercury rotates counterclockwise
Venus rotates clockwise
Venus is 41 million km from earth
Venus revolves at a speed of 35 km/sec
The average temperature on earth is 14°C
The Earth is moving at 1675 km/h
Earth rotates counterclockwise. It takes one day to rotate once on its axis. It takes 1 year to rotate around the entire sun
Its traveling around the sun 28000 km/h
Earths surface is made of soil, water, plants
Earth is 149.6 million km from the sun
Mercury is 57.9 million km from the sun
Venus is 108.2 million km from the sun
Mars is 227.9 million km from the sun
Jupiter is 778.5 million km from the sun
Uranus is 2.9 billion km from the sun
Neptune is 4.3 billion km from earth
Uranus is 2.57 billion km from earth
Saturn is 1.2 billion km from earth
Jupiter is 591 million km from earth
Average distance from earth is 225 million km
The diameter of Saturn is 116464 km
The diameter of Uranus 50724 km
The diameter of Neptune 49244 km
Jupiter's atmosphere is mostly made up of hydrogen, gas and helium
The average temperature of Jupiter is -150°C
The mass of Jupiter is 1.898E27 kg
The mass of Saturn is 568.3E24 kg
The mass of Uranus is 86.81E24 kg
The mass of Neptune is 102.4E24 kg
The average surface temperature on Neptune is -214°C
The average surface temperature on Uranus is -197°C
The average surface temperature on Saturn is -178°C
The surface temperature on Mars is -63°C, but can range from 20°C to -140°C
The orbit speed is 9.69km/sec
It takes 29.5 earth years for Saturn to go around the sun once.
Saturn's Rings
The rings are called planetary rings. The rings extend anywhere from 6630 km out to 120700 km above Saturn's equator. They are only 20m thick. The majority of the rings are made up of water and ice.
Saturn rotates counterclockwise (same as earth) 9.87m/sec, meaning it takes 10h and 15min to make one rotation ( like one day)
Uranus has an axial tilt of 98°.It is also described as rolling around the sun on it's side.
It takes 84 earth years for Uranus to go around the sun once
It is the coldest planet in the solar system
It rotates once on its axis every 17h and 14min (one Uranus day)
* Uranus has two sets of rings*
It takes Neptune 164 earth years to rotate around the sun, meaning it travels 19720 km/h when orbiting the sun.
It rotates clockwise just like Venus
It rotates counterclockwise
It takes 16h and 36sec to do one rotation on its self ( it is a Neptune day)
Its rotating at 9660 km/h
The sun rotates in a strange way, meaning not like planets. The equator rotates faster than the poles. At the equator it takes about 25 days to do a rotation.
Mars takes 24h and 40min to do one full rotation on its axis. (That is a mars day)
It takes mars 1.8 earth year(one mars year) to go around the sun once. Traveling at 86871km/h
Mercury moves the fastest around the sun
Neptune moves the slowest around the sun
Jupiter revolves or orbits around the sun once every 11.86 Earth years
Jupiter travels at an average speed of 65.781 km/h
Jupiter rotates counterclockwise
Mars rotates counterclockwise
Comets
A comet has a different mass and diameter because there are small and big comets.
Comets can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise
A comet is made up of ice, dust and small rocky particles
The temperature of a comet can change depending on how close it is to the sun or other heat sources and the elements that make up it's composition
A comet that is known is called Halley's Comet. It takes 76 years to complete a full orbit around the sun.
Asteroids
Asteroids have lots of different mass's and diameters because they are all different
Asteroids rotate counterclockwise and clockwise
Asteroids are made up of metals, rock and different minerals
The temperature of an asteroid can change depending on how close it's orbit goes to the sun and other stars.
Dwarf Planets
The dwarf planet I am focusing on is Pluto
The diameter of Pluto is 2,300 km
The surface temperature is -220°C
The mass of Pluto is 0.002 kg
Pluto's orbital period in earth years is 247.7
Pluto is mainly made up of ice, but it also contains a small rocky core that may have some metals.
Meteoroids
Meteoroids have different mass's and diameters because they are lots of meteoroids
Meteoroids can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise
The temperature of meteoroids can change depending on how close it's orbit goes to the sun
Meteoroids are made up of small particles of space, molten rock and magnetic and layers of ice
