Transcript of GLOBAL WARMING:
What is the media exaggerating?
There is no doubt that the globe is warming, but the media is definitely warping information. Websites and TV channels are exaggerating temperature increases, major weather occurrences, and ice disappearances. You can not trust the media with every situation. The media's goal is to earn money; their goal is not to be honest to viewers. As you can see, the media's flame can sometimes be too hot!
Is the Media's Flame too Hot?
Global warming is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally and the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century and its projected continuation.
Global Warming, according to the majority of the Media (including National Geographic News), is caused by increasing amounts of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and all greenhouse gases. These gases are produced by industrialization, deforestation, and pollution.
The effects of global warming include ice, glacier, and mountain snow melting and high amounts of extreme weather (wildfires, heat waves, etc.)
Almost all scientists believe that humans are impacting global warming, but the media exaggerates the circumstance . Many news channels and popular websites overemphasize the amount of average temperature increase. They also put to much blame on humans.
Ice melting due to Global Warming
Many news channels and websites (including IRIN Global News, Buzzle- an informational website, and many others) claim that Arctic ice is melting due to global warming. The complete opposite is actually occurring. With a few weeks left of growth, the amount of Arctic ice gain became a new record, more than 10 million km² of new ice has formed. This means that in 2013 the most amount of ice was gained in the Arctic and Antarctic regions than anytime recorded before. Furthermore, the Arctic ice cap grew 60% since 2012. It is false for anyone to say that Arctic ice is melting, because there is visual data that shows that the amount of ice is growing. And the ice isn't even growing in a small amount, the amount of ice growth has broken a record!
Here are some examples:
National Geographic News, The Daily Green, World Watch, New York Times, and many more news channels and websites declare that global warming is causing more major wildfires to occur. If you look at the worst wildfires in history, the majority of them are before the 1900s. For example, the worst wildfire in U.S. History is the Great Peshtigo Fire. It burned 3.8 million acres and killed at least 1,500 in Wisconsin and Michigan in October, 1871,and the cause of the fire was drought and hot temperatures. The largest wildfire in Canada (Miramichi Fire) occurred in October, 1825, and was caused by, again, dry and warm weather. For instance, Siberia's worst wildfire took place in 2003, but the cause was because of illegal timber firms who sell cheap lumber to China. The worst wildfires in history occurred before the suspicion of global warming.

Temperature Increase in the Next 100 Years
Many news sources (The Washington Post, International Business Times, TG Daily, and many more) claim that by 2100 the global surface temperature will rise by 4 degrees Celsius. But in the past 100 years, the temperature has only increased by about 0.8 degrees Celsius. If the temperature increase from 2000 to 2100 follows the same path as it did from 1900 to 2000, the temperature will only rise by 0.8, or 1 degree at the most. In the past 20 years, temperature has risen by 0.6 degrees Celsius. And even if the next 100 years follows this trend, the global surface temperature will only rise by 3 degrees. And even though 3 and 4 aren't far from each other on a number line, 3 degrees and 4 degrees are very different when you are dealing with global warming.
Why does the Media Exaggerate Global Warming?
Although, all news channels and media sources may not exaggerate global warming for the same reason, most do misrepresent global warming to earn revenue. Of course, making a circumstance seem like a disastrous event might not sound like a good way to earn money, but NBC can prove it is. NBC (not the only media/entertainment company to do so) raised tens of millions of dollars from two events: Green Is Universal Earth Week and Green Week. Exaggerating the impact that global warming is having on the world can make people feel like they must donate money and change to the "green" lifestyle (environmentally-friendly cars, etc.) Other companies that have done the same include The Discovery Channel, CBS, the 40 various companies who partnered with NBC for their events, and many more.
