Important Quotes
" 'What's the matter with him?' Whispered Lenina. Her eyes were wide with horror and amazement." (Huxley 110)
This quote is taken from Lenina reacting to the old man at the Indian reservation. She was amazed perplexed and scared seeing old people for the first time in her life. This is important because it shows how sheltered she is and how different her life is than the people who live on the reservation.

"I often think one may have missed something in not having a mother" (112).
Bernard is commenting on seeing mothers nurture their children at the reservation. This shows he actually has an open mind to other ways of life than his own and is not close minded toward the people on the reserve like Lenina.

"Lenina was left to face the horrors of Malpais unaided" (Huxley 111).
Lenina forgot her Soma when she left for this trip so she had to actually go through life on her real emotions. This shows how dependent on this drug she is and she can hardly stand to go on a trip without it.

Important new Characters
She is the woman that the Director talks about in chapter 6. A long time ago she got lost at the reservation and then was taken in by the savages. Since there was no birth control in her new home, the Director fertilized her. She had a natural born son. She was also the village prostitute because she was the only one that was a polygamist and not a monogamist.

John grew up hearing myths of the World State. His mother was Linda and his father is the Director. He loves the reservation where he lives and wishes that people did not discriminate against him for being white and not tan. His ultimate goal is to be the village sacrifice but they will not let him because he looks different. He is very interested in Lenina and Bernard because he loves to learn new things.
