WAR
What is War?

The
Catholic Church agrees
that the moral act is
justifiable under certain conditions.
Supports of War
Supported by the
Bible.
Stated by
Adolf Hitler
as an attack to show strength.
Acknowledged by
Winston Churchill
for defending our land.
A
Support from the Bible
"Paul praises
Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephtha, David and Samuel
who conquered kingdoms,
enforced justice,
became mighty in war and put foreign armies to flight.
These men engaged in the legitimate defense of the people of God and were praised for their faithfulness." Heb. 11:32-34
To Show strength
"Strength lies

not in defense but

in attack."
Adolf Hitler
Protect and expand our land
"We shall
defend our island,

whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender."
Winston Churchill
Member of Parliament, statesman, soldier, journalist, historian, author, painter
The concept of War in the church
The Church is
not completely

against
War
and has made it
justifiable
under certain conditions as
JUST WAR.
It also believes in making peace, to love our enemies and to not harm our neighbor but keep brotherhood with everyone. However it supports
JUST WAR
as a
self-defense
.
Love for oneself
is very
important
in the
church
and its a primary part of Christian morality. So a person who protects his life, and kills the aggressor will not be a murderer.
The Bible Says
“But as for
these enemies
of mine,
who did not want me
to reign over them, bring them here and
slay them before me."
Luke 19:27

let him
who
has no sword
sell his mantle and
buy one.

Luke 22:36
THE CCC
2264"
Love
toward
oneself
remains a fundamental
principle of morality.
Therefore
it is legitimate
to insist on
respect for one's own right to life.
Someone who
defends
his life is
not guilty of murder
even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow."
( 26th president of United States)

ATTENTION

!!!

Christian Morality
is
objective morality.
Therefore, the church judges based on the act or the object. However
JUST WAR
is accepted because
Church
also believes in
protecting our lives.
JUST WAR
is accepted by the principals of
The lesser of two evils.
If
we

believe
that we
cannot kill anybody
because
we cannot take
over
God's job,
so
we should
also
think no one have the right to harm or kill us
except God.
Thus we should accept the concept of JUST WAR.
Naturally how a War can be evil?
Harming neighbors only to capture lands is evil.
War is harming neighbors to capture lands.
War is evil.
Continues.........
Fighting with another country for competition is war.
Evil is fighting with another country for competition.
Thus evil can be defined by War.
How JUST WAR can be accepted by Catholicism ?
Protecting ourselves and others is not evil.
Just war is protecting ourselves and others.
Thus Just War is not evil.
Continues...........
Harming to the person who comes to kill you is self-defense.
Just war is harming to the person who comes to kill you.
Thus, Just War is self defense.
Continues...........
To go against a nonbeliever for the sake of God or God's word is being faithful.
Just War is to go against a nonbeliever for the sake of God or God's word.
Therefore, Just War is being faithful.

Response to Heb. 11:32-34
This passage talks about
Paul
gives
thanks
to the
people who became strong in
war
and fought
with
different countries.
Paul supported
them
because they enforced
JUSTICE, they
protected
the
believers
of God.
Thus,Although this passage seems to go with war, but actually it goes with JUST WAR.
Response to Adolf Hitler
According to Hitler strength can only be shown by attack.
In Catholicism
this kind of concept or war is
intrinsically evil
, because it neither shows a war for
justice nor for
protecting our lives
. It shows a war just to show strength
Therefore this kind of war will never be supported by Catholics because the main point about Just War is self-defense but in here Hitler is already saying that strength does not lie in defense.
In response to Churchill
Churchill states that we have to protect our land and fight for it in anywhere and anyway.
Catholicism do not agree
with it
because
in
Just War the main goal is not to protect land in anywhere and anyway
. The goal is to protect ourselves and save other people from murderers.
Thus Churchill's statement
is
intrinsically evil
because his concept of war shows only selfishness, but not protecting our lives and also others.
Against War in Bible
Supported by the
Bible
A good man always know the way to compromise with his peers by
Mahatma Gandhi.
Men are responsible being so they do not have to be violent to others by
Benjamin Franklin.
“Love
your
enemies
and
pray
for those who
persecute you.”
Matt. 5:44
Non supporter of War
"The
good man
is the
friend
of all
living things."
Mahatma Gandhi
Non Supporter of War
"I hope that
mankind
will at length, as they call themselves
responsible creatures
have the reason and sense enough to
settle their differences without cutting throats."
Benjamin Franklin
In response to Matt. 5:44
Jesus says to love our enemies.
This does not mean

that when

anybody will attack us we will
be quiet

because
Jesus allowed legitimate defense

but if that
enemy is not harming
us only then
we are not allowed to be violent
to that person.
Response to Gandhi
Response to Benjamin Franklin
Franklin states that men are enough responsible to have sense to adjust differences without killing people.
Though Gandhi's seems right and it is entirely against war, whereas the catholic church is for just war.
This statement
cannot be use always true because
if man is responsible
enough
to settle difference without
killing

people

than

they should

also be responsible to take care of their lives
and it includes harming the person who comes to kill you and this is what Catholicism talks about.
Against War
Franklin states
that men
do not need
to kill
people for difference
because they are
responsible beings.
The theory of Gandhi
cannot be always true
because in bible it is said that even if you are a good and happy person still you cannot agree with everybody because your point of view will be different than other people.
A
conflict
carried on
by force of arms,
as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air.
