Transcript of Sonnet 147
Metaphors: "A mighty fortress is our God."Simile: Love is not literally a fever. So the line "My love is as a fever..." is simile. "Who art as black as hell, as dark as night" is also a simile.
Ironic: He continues to desire the very thing that is causing him harm. -"Peter Williams." Inc. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Jan. 2013.

In Sonnet 147, he describes a woman that's wonderful, but she's no good for him. He is tricked by her love and he can't seem to leave her. "My love is as a fever, longing still, For that which longer nurseth the disease," which he is describing her as a fever he can't get rid of. My love is as a fever longing still,
For that which longer nurseth the disease;
Feeding on that which doth preserve the ill,
The uncertain sickly appetite to please.
My reason, the physician to my love,
Angry that his prescriptions are not kept,
Hath left me, and I desperate now approve
Desire is death, which physic did except.
Past cure I am, now Reason is past care,
And frantic-mad with evermore unrest;
My thoughts and my discourse as madmen's are,
At random from the truth vainly expressed;
For I have sworn thee fair, and thought thee bright,
Who art as black as hell, as dark as night. Work Cited Born in 1952 he had a varied working life which included the regular British Army, college tutor, computer analyst and lorry driver. During these times he always found time to create art of some kind in his spare time. He is a full time artist, a good one too! Rhyme Scheme The rhyme scheme is ABABCDCDEFEFGG. Actual Meaning Basically it's talking about how the speaker has fallen in love with a girl and she's sucking the life out of him but he can't get away from her because he loves her.
