Transcript of Neil Young
Born November 12, 1945, Neil Young is an internationally acclaimed Canadian musician, songwriter, activist, and film director.
"one of the most respected and influential musicians of his generation"
His careerhas been successful for over 40 years, recording 33 studio albums. Career As a young boy, Young strived to become
just like Elvis Presley.
His first band "Buffalo Springfield" was a surprising
success, but due to a lot of tension, the group split up.
Soon after, Young created his first solo record, and
recruited 3 musicians from a band called "The Rocket".
This group became known as "Crazy Horse". He later joined Crosby, Stills, & Nash to form
Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.
Many hit songs were recorded by this group
but split up due to much arguing.
By 1971 Young started a solo tour and produced
the song "Heart of Gold", which became his only
#1 hit ever. In 1989, he released "Rockin in the Free World",
which became #2 in the US because it deals with
homelessness, terrorism, the environment, and
Another single, "Let's Roll", was dedicated to
the victims of 9/11.
Impact He has been inducted into the Hall
of Fame twice... in 1995 and 1997.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Young
thirty-fourth in its list of the 500
greatest artists of all time.
He is one of the founders of Farm Aid (benefit concert
to raise money for family farmers).
Some of the biggest rock bands perform at these events.
The concerts also help educate children with disablities.
He is currently working on a documentary about hybrid
vehicles and green energy. He hopes to send an
environmental message to the US and make an impact.
