The way you treat others is a huge reflection of who you are
Must be present to win!
I don't see your grade as a reflection of who you are... only a reflection of what you can and/or are willing to do.
Be Considerate
Be Present
Mentally and Physically
Tardies (excused or not) = loss of 5 pts. each time
Hall Passes = 5pts. bonus each if unused by end of the semester. Must not exceed 10 absences (excused or not) in order to benefit.
Make-Up Work
You must come in before or after school the day you return from having been absent in order to get your make-up work. Failure to do so will result in loss of points.
Biggest reason students don't receive an A
You must take ownership of your potential success
Some of the work we will do in class can't be made up. Participation assignments like group work and discussion can't be made up.
School Board Policy: Attendance: Ellensburg School Board Policy 3122-
"If an absence is excused, the student shall be permitted to makeup all missed assignments outside of class under reasonable conditions and time limits established by the appropriate teacher
except that in participation-type classes a student's grade may be affected because of the student's inability to make up the activities conducted during a class period."

The Power of Three
This class will benefit you in the following ways:
-You will have fun!
-You will learn to save a life by becoming certified in CPR and First Aid
-You will learn skills to keep yourself physically, mentally, and socially healthy for the rest of your life!
-Your points of view will be challenged in a way that makes you stronger.
Please keep me in the loop when it comes to issues in your life that will help me to better understand your progress!
I care about you. You are a unique and special person, not just a student taking up space!
So let's have a FUN and meaningful semester!
Benefits
One last thought...
This is one of those classes! There will be times that you simply can't make up the points that you missed no matter what the circumstances. Not to worry though... If you have all your other ducks in a row there is still an opportunity to achieve the grade you are hoping for!
Come in for make-up work
after having been gone.
Come to class prepared.
Turn in high quality work.
Treat everyone in my room with
respect and consideration.
Participate in class discussion.
Keep an organized folder with
all of your completed/graded work.
How do you keep YOUR ducks in a row?
Be the change you wish to see in the world!!

Time for a Tangent!
What's does a grade even mean?
Bumper stickers... "My child made the Honor Roll."
-And this means what exactly?
What is your grade a reflection of?
Just so you know... I don't define you by your grade, I don't judge you based on your grade, and the outcome of your schooling shouldn't be about a grade!
Important outcomes to me?
-That you learn.
-That you enjoy the learning process.
-That you realize you are about more than just a letter on a transcript.
-That you leave this class everyday feeling like your presence mattered and that you bring something unique to the table.

Make a daily choice to contribute positively to this class!!
I don’t hold grudges. I forgive and forget. And the kind of student you have been for other teachers doesn’t factor in to my judgment of you!

You get to redefine yourself every time you walk through my door!

I plan on bringing my best self to this classroom every day and I hope you will do the same!

You come to me with a clean slate!
