Morph - shape, or form
Ology - the study of
The study of the structures of an organism.
Morphology is the study of the body structures of organisms , so it is helpful to know different aspects of morphology when studying evolution.
Morphology, Embryology, and Homolgous Structures
Human Embryo Development
Homo - Same/Equal
ology - the study of
Internal structures in many organisms are similar, while their outward appearance and uses are different This helps to prove the theory of a common ancestor.
By studying embryos we can see that all embryos look very similar in the very early stages of development, which has lead to the conclusion that though organisms now are very separate and distinct species, they all have a common ancestor. Studying embryos can also help to illustrate how and what changes embryos go through as they develop, and by studying embryo's DNA, it is possible to find what parts of the DNA are responsible for those changes.
