Transcript of Protected Class: Sexual Orientation

What is sexual orientation? http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/politics/2009/October/Gays-Now-a-Protected-Class-of-People-under-New-Law/ What is Homosexuality? "No one in America should ever be afraid to walk down the street holding the hand of the person they love. No one in America should be forced to look over their shoulder because of who they are," Obama said. Sexual orientation refers to a person’s sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of others who share those attractions. Homosexuality is romantic or sexual attraction or behavior between members of the same gender. Sexual Orientation a Protected Class http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/sexual-orientation.aspx Bibliography http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/politics/2009/October/Gays-Now-a-Protected-Class-of-People-under-New-Law/ When all else fails... Some people don't agree with this. Why? Sometimes its religious, sometimes people don't like people that are different, and some people don't feel that this is natural because you can't have children or offspring. For this reason sometimes people will discriminate against homosexuals, Bisexuals, Lesbians, and Gays. http://www.enotes.com/soc/discuss/why-do-you-think-that-people-phobic-about-74989 Here's what I think: I think that EVERYONE deserves to be happy and shouldn't be discriminated against for their beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I feel that homosexuals should be able to marry legally in all states. The United States is a melting pot of different people with different ideas. So why be so afraid of change? I say love whoever you want because that's the most important thing. The world would be a lot better place if everyone could just listen to each other and respect other peoples opinions. For the video go to: http://civilliberty.about.com/od/gendersexuality/ig/Lesbian-and-Gay-Rights-101/Anti-Gay-Discrimination.htm California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin all have laws on the books prohibiting job discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. In 34 states, it is still perfectly legal for lesbian and gay employees to be fired simply because their employers discover, and disapprove of, their sexual orientation. Discrimination is when people judge other people for what they believe in or who they are.
