The Art of
Doodling... Doodles are simple drawings made while a person's attention is somewhere else. The word doodle appeared in the early seventeenth century meaning fool or simpleton. In the movie Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Mr. Deeds mentions that "doodle" was a word made up to describe scribblings to help a person think. Bibliography "Doodle." Wikipedia. It's a way to express myself, my thoughts, my feelings, anything that's on my mind. Some people use doodling as a way of therapy. A woman named Carole Ross Edmonston teaches seminars on doodling. She discovered how relieving it is to doodle while sitting in a doctor's waiting room when she was battling breast cancer and now she wants to see if people really have a way to cope with stress. The popular kinds of doodles include cartoon versions of teachers or friends in school, famous TV or comic characters, fictional people, landscapes, shapes, textures, banners with legends, and animations which is made by drawing a scene sequence in various pages of a book or a notebook. Your Average Doodle Did You Know? Not only does doodling help relieve stress, according to a study published in the scientific journal Applied Cognitive Psychology, doodling can help a person's memory. By using just enough energy to keep one from daydreaming, which demands a lot of the brain's processing power, as well as from not paying attention. It acts as a mediator between the spectrum of thinking too much or thinking too little and helps focus on the current situation. The study was done by Professor Jackie Andrade, of the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth, who reported that doodlers in her experiment recalled 7.5 pieces of information (out of 16 total) on average, 29% more than the average of 5.8 recalled by the control group made of non-doodlers. Doodling is my passion because I enjoy expressing what's on my mind. People usually think that doodling is wrong and in some cases, it is but at other times, you can see that it isn't. Doodling is a hobby that I enjoy. I guarantee that you'll find almost every single piece of paper I have with some kind of design. Doodling is overall, relaxing and it keeps me busy so I won't cause trouble and that's why doodling is my passion.
