work place discrimination

Overview
Although the LGBT community is starting to be more accepted (legalization of same-sex marriage), there are still many issues for them. In many states LGBT people can be denied employment bases solely off of their sexual orientation. And in some states LGBT people do not have the right to adopt children. We must acknowledge that major progress has been made; however we must keep progressing to make sure that LGBT people have the rights that they deserve.
why did we choose this topic
29 States Can Fire You Based On Sexual Orientation
LGBT people can be denied employment or service from a business bases off "religious freedom law". Which states that businesses have the right to deny anyone who they want due to religious reasons. This "right" that religious people apply to LGBT people should not be a right. Your rights end when they infringe on the rights of others. Just because you may personal have biases does not mean that you can allow those biases to impact the quality of life for others.
adopting children
In some states LGBT PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO ADOPT CHILDREN. OVER A THIRD OF ALL ADOPTION AGENCIES WILL REFUSE TO LET A LESBIAN OR GAY COUPLE ADOPT A CHILD. THIS IS DUE TO A MIXTURE OF FACTORS RANGING TO RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AND THE STATE MAKING IT ILLEGAL FOR GAY AND LESBIAN PEOPLE TO ADOPT. THIS IS IN SPITE OF RESEARCH SHOWING THAT THE SEXUAL ORIENTATION HAS NO REAL EFFECT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD; THAT GAY PARENTS ARE JUST AS GOOD AT RAISING A CHILD AS A HETEROSEXUAL COUPLE WOULD BE.

Promote equality
We chose this topic because we felt that the treatment of, and quality of life for the LGBT community can be improved. We wanted to see how the LGBT community was treated throughout the U.S. and what laws and other various obstacles stood in the way of equality. We wanted to promote equality and see how peoples live can be improved, in the sprite of progression.
