Types of Stem Cells They can grow and become a complete organism. Totipotents (zygote) They can form any kind of cell corresponding to any embryonic type. Pluripotents (Tissues and organs) They can only differentiate in one type of cell. (muscle cells) Unipotents They can only generate cells of the same embryonic type. (osteocytes) Multipotents Cryopreserved embryos Individual Blastomere Obtaining corpses Parthenogenesis The obtaining of stem cells STEM CELLS Transplants Treatment of illness Stem cells are found in all multicellular organisms that can divide and differentiate into diverse specialized cell types that can self-renew to produce more stem cells. They are currently used for two main things: The stem cells can treat illness like leukemia, lymphoma and anemia. Alzheimer Uses of Stem Cells Cancer Life and embryos Moral dilemma vs Advantages Church Catholic church and defender of human rights believe that in order to obtain stem cells from an embryo, you take a human life. Embryo is not an equivalent to human life, for it is not a part of itself. Stem cells are used to replace dead cells from chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Cord blood bank It response to the potential for cord blood transplants in treating diseases of the blood and immune systems. Cloning Cloning organs can safe a lot of lives without the need of donating organs. Cancerous stem cells Cancer stem cells are a subset of cells that can self-renew and differentiate into many cell types and form a tumor. Cryopreservation of embryos is the process of preserving an embryo at sub-zero temperatures. Blastomere is a type of cell produced by cleavage (cell division) of the zygote after fertilization.
