Meaning of Physical Education

Physical Education came from the Latin words "

", which means the training of the bodily organs and powers with a view to the promotion of hearts and vigor.

It is an integral part of the educational program designed to promote the optimum development of an individual physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through total body movement in the performance of properly selected physical activities

1. Physical education curriculum must be appropriate and suitable for the development range of the learner in a group. it must be implemented with careful attention to the needs, interest and developmental levels of individual learners within the group.

2. An individual learner is unique. Each develop skills and understanding at different rates with varied experiences.
3. Learners need to be responsible for decision making. Physical educators must help the individual learner develop his ability to make wise and appropriate choices about physical activity at present and in the future.

4. Development of students' full potential will occur when instructed to become increasingly independent learners.
5. A trained and experienced teacher who chooses and develops learning experiences based on a student's understanding and learning style can improve the social, emotional and motor development of each learner.
