Transcript of Recycle

Today a little more than 1/3 of American's recycle. The other 2/3 throw away plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper. Trash is having to be exported to islands because the United States is producing trash faster and faster each year. In half a century the Unites States has tripled the amount of trash it produces. Plastics are the most recycled material in the United States. About 52% of plastics produced are recycled. There are many pros to recycling. The main pro is that recycling helps out the environment. When raw materials are used to create new materials, a lot of energy is used and this is hurting the environment. A con is that recycling can cause some harmful toxins into the environment. Recycling overall is extremely helpful for the Earth and the pros outweigh the cons.

Recycle For The Future
By: Ana Delgado, Claudia Norman, Alyssa Flores, Deborah Nochez, Jacob Helton, Brenna Veloz, Robert Guerra, and Caleb Santana.
Ana D: Every office building should have a recycling next to the trash bin. This provokes a choice to be made instead of just throwing it away and forgetting about it. If people think about it more and more they are more likely to do it. Also if in school announcements they reminded everyone to recycle everyday it would become a habit to do so, especially if there was a catching slogan to go with it.
Brenna V: At lunch, teachers and lunch hands should restate the importance of recycling. Like at Lehman, how there are televisions at the stage that have slides reminding of recent news. One of the slides should focus on recycling.
Project Overview
Raise awareness for high school students about the importance of recycling and making it more convenient for them to do so.

Ideas That Were Considered for Project
Our Research
Best solution to the project/issue
Reminding students to recycle everyday would play a big part in creating a solution for this problem. Educating the public and actually putting a spotlight on the issue. Giving neighborhoods and schools recycling bins so they have a choice between trash and recycling, and hopefully choose the latter due to the convenience and newly learned information about the importance and benefits.

Jacob H
Jacob H - We should put more recycling bins around the school so that it will be easier for everyone to recycle.
Caleb S- I agree with Jacob this is definitely what we should focus on.
Claudia N- Our schools should use more eco-friendly products, we should stop using Styrofoam trays, and we should have less trash cans so that students won’t throw away as much trash.
Deborah N - Claudia are you suggesting that schools should bring back the hard plastic trays? We should have some cans/bins around the school labeled trash and the others labeled recycle. They can be right next to each other, so that you don’t have to go down the hallway to throw away your banana peel or something, it’ll save time too.
Deborah N.- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle? I know it’s really bland and overdone but that’s the only one I thought of.
Robert G.-I was looking for slogans and i found this- Never refuse to reuse-Don’t trash our future, recycle-Recycling cans just makes cents-Don’t be a drag reuse your bags-Play by the rules, recycle and reuse

We considered many ideas for this project and I think that we did a really good job of brain storming together. That is one of the better things of working in a group is the different input from everybody. Having different minds sparks others to think differently too.
Don't think of it as a chore, don't be negative, be positive! Recycling is for the good of Earth and for each other. Think of recycling as a good deed that you're doing for yourself and others. Reward yourself every time you recycle OR if you want make it into a fun game! - Deborah N.
Robert Guerra

Step 1 -Contact Companies and Businesses about the possibility of having recycling bins donated to them community
Step 2-Fundraise and begin raising awareness about the importance of recycling

Step 3-Plan out complete project including posters and purchase materials
Step 4-Print out posters and put together anything bins or other materials that need to be assembled
Step 5-Hang up posters in convenient areas, place bins around the community and raise awareness about recycling
What would make Recycling more fun and easier to do?...
In every job that must be done there is an element of fun.
You’ll find the fun and snap the job’s a game!
And every task you undertake becomes a piece of cake!

By following our timeline, we will make recycling more important and more known. Because of the benefits of recycling to the atmosphere, students and the younger generation should be taught to recycle more. In schools and in the public community, posters will remind people to recycle.
