hip hop, jazz, ballet, salsa, contemporary, freestyle etc. The international appeal of Bollywood dancing is something that has been many decades in the making. Originally it was found only in places that had a significant consumption of Indian films (i.e., Former Soviet Union, and the Middle East). But a few years ago it started to become chic in Europe, and today it is rising in popularity in the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries . The Bollywood films have been in production since the year 1913 and with it came the Indian classical and folk dance. These were the original forms of the Indian dance. At first only men use to perform, because women were not allowed to dance as per the prevailing culture.

A few years later MTV was introduced to the country, which had an influence on the dance, this act led to the introduction and rise of jazz, contemporary, ballet, salsa and many more styles of dance. Now the Bollywood dance is a mixture of freestyle, contemporary, salsa, hip hop, jazz, belly dance with a taste of Indian classical and folk dance. In 1950 India was also introduced to the middle eastern dance known as the belly dancing soon the indian dancer modified it and created a new dance called the cabaret dance .
