Kenya's first Digital library
From Edu Hackathon to Fundraising breakfast
While most libraries across the globe are migrating to the digital platform, the case of Nyamira County is a sad story. The county does not have any library services, not even an analogue one.
Researchers, students, teachers, lecturers, professionals and members of the public in Nyamira County have no library facility to access for information.
We intend to make the library a multipurpose one stop centre of information and knowledge.
In fact, once the library starts officially, we plan to set up a community college to be tied to this library. The students in this college will be important clients for the library. Then we can replicate this across rural Kenya. Once this is done, the people in rural Kenya can access quality education in the community college and quality information at the digital libraries. If we had at least one digital library in all the 47 counties of Kenya, then that will be hundreds of job opportunities for the youth and of course an opportunity for rural folks to compete favourably with the rest of the world in terms of access to knowledge and information.
