Meaning of song
The meaning of a song tells you what the song is about and why it was written. The song "All of me" shows us that when you are in love with someone, you do not care about their flaws or imperfections, and that you love absolutely everything about them. There s an example of this in the poem (13) "all your perfect imperfections". This shows that the songwriter finds even the person's imperfections beautiful.
(5) "I'm on your magical mystery ride"
An alliteration is the repetition of the same letter lettter or sounds near eachother.
In this line "magical" and "mystery" both start with the letter M.
John Legend has won 9 grammy awards and received the Starlight award. His hit song from his album "love in the future" is the third track, "All of me" which peaked to #1 on the iTunes charts, and #2 on the billboard top 100.
In this song there is no structured rhyme scheme. The verses have only 2 rhyming lines and the chorus has 4, which are repeated lyrics. the "pre-chorus" and "bridge" do not rhyme at all.
"All Of Me" by John Legend
(1) "What would I do without your smart mouth"
Personification is a figure of speech in which a lifeless or inanimate thing is given human characteristics.
In this line they give a mouth the ability to speak, because speaking is a human characteristic. What they are trying to say is that the words that come out of the persons mouth are smart, a not that the actual mouth itself is smart.
(13) "All your perfect imperfections"
An oxymoron is the bringing together of 2 contradicting terms to create emphasis.
In this line they use "perfect" and "imperfect" which mean the complete opposite of each other. The author uses this to show that the person's imperfections are seen as perfect through his eyes, Which connects directly to the theme.
(23-24) "You're my downfall, you're my muse / my worst distraction, my rhythm and blues"
A rhyme is similar or identical sound of accented syllables, within two or more lines of verse.
In this line, "muse" and "blues" both have a very similar sounding ending.
