Sexual Harassment Online
Physical violence against women has spread to the internet, where the lines between real and abstract blur, especially when one compares physical and online sexual harassment. Many online comment sections of social media posts, blogs, and online news articles possess verbal sexual harassment that is filled with misogynistic language. Some dismiss internet harassment as invalid and hypothetical, but it exists as both verbal and potential violence. The existent social paradigm in which women have a lower power status than men creates a similar structure on the internet, and the option of anonymity on the internet creates an incubator for digital misogyny. Furthermore, violence against women in the form of online sexual harassment exists as a social problem, and power structures along with digital anonymity compound the issue of internet misogyny.
