WHAT SHOULD WE BE EATING?
All food contain nutrients which our bodies need to work properly and stay healthy!
There are different kinds of Nutrients each with their own functions.
We need a balance of all of them.
We can Divide foods into different food groups
copy and paste as needed and take advantage of an infinite canvas!
To stay healthy we need to eat a balanced diet and a variety of different foods . The eatwell plate helps us with this.
Meat, fish , eggs , beans , and non dairy sources of protein.
We should all eat plenty of fruit and vegetables but most people Don't eat enough.
How many portions should we eat a day?
Fruit and vegetables provide our body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay healthy.
For example vitamin C. This is found in oranges, it helps to keep your skin healthy.
Bread,RICe,POTATOES AND PASTA.
MILK AND DAIRY FOODS.
We should eat different amounts of different types of food.
The EAT WELL plate shows us how we can get the balance right.
Can you explain what balanced means?
These are sources of Carbohydrates, which provide the body with energy.
Wholemeal sources have more fibre in them which helps to provide energy for longer.
Sports men and women and athletes eat lots of these to fuel them during competitions.
These foods contain Calcium which is needed to keep your teeth and bones strong and healthy.
This is especially important when you are growing, so your bones develop properly.
Do you know what shines bright in the sky that can help us use calcium?
FruiT AND VEGETABLEs!
This group provides us with protein which is essential for our growth and development, and helps to repair our bodies.
How many types of fish and meat can you name?
Vegetarian alternatives such as tofu, soya, and quorn also fit into this group.
Fats are used for energy and help our bodies to transport vitamins and minerals, they also provide us with insulation, to keep us warm.
some good sources of Fats are nuts, and olive oil. However, you only need a small amount of these.
Can you think of a good source of fat beginning with the letter 'A' ?
HIGH Fats and HIGH Sugar.
Foods high in fat and high in sugar should be limited, you should not eat too many of these types of food, they can cause you to feel tired, have unstable energy levels and not be able to concentrate.
examples of these foods are chocolate, cakes and full sugar fizzy drinks.
how many of these might you eat or drink today ?
that doesn't mean you cant have them on special occasions, its all about balance!
EAt Healthily & BE ACTIVE!
Its very important to stay active!! Doing physical activity will help your heart and lungs get better at transporting oxygen to your muscles, so you can run and play for longer.
It will also help you to have stronger muscles and bones.
and help you stay flexible as you grow up.
IT ALSO MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!
You should try to be active for atleast an hour a day.
DRink PLENTY OF WATER.
Your body is made up of nearly 70 % water.
it has many important functions in your body.
Keeping your body temperature down
You lose water when you sweat, breathe and use the Toilet.
So its important to replace this, so your body can function well.
You should aim for 5-6 glasses of water a day.
