Personification
Giving human qualities, feelings, actions, or characteristics to not living things.

When the lyrics say "The
city never sleeps at night" It
is personification because
city's cant sleep.
Imagine Dragons- It's time
Metaphor
States that one thing is something else. It is a comparison, but does not use like or as to make to comparison.
"You're a falling star, you're the get away car, you're the line in the sand when I go to far, You're the swimming pool on an August day"
In these lyrics, he is comparing
somebody to a falling star, a get
away car, and the line in the sand
when he goes to far, without
using like or as.
Michael Buble- Everything
Simile
A comparison using like or as. It usually compares two unlike objects.
"With the moon shining bright as headlights on the interstate"
This is a simile because it
is comparing the moon's
light to headlights on
the interstate using as.
Allusion
A reference to a well-known person, place, thing or event.
Keith Urban- You'll think of me
"That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles and my daddy said stay away from Juliet"
This is an allusion because
Romeo and Juliet was a play
by William Shakespeare
written between 1591 and
1596.
Hyperbole
Is intentionally exaggerated figures of speech.
"And when you smile the whole world stops and stares for a while"
This is a hyperbole because
the whole world does not
actually stop and stare.
Taylor swift- Love story
Bruno Mars- Just the way you are
Alliteration
The repetition of the initial consonant. There should be at least two repetitions in a row.
"You only need the light when its burning low, only miss the sun when it starts to snow"
This is alliteration because
sun, starts and snow all
start with the letter 's'.
Passenger- Let her go
Tone- negative- hopeless, gloomy,
and anxious
Mood- Gloomy, hopeless, sad
Tone- positive-admiring
Mood- Confident
"I don't ever wanna let you down
I don"t ever wanna leave this town
'Cause after all
