6 Criteria of Science: CONPTT
Transcript of 6 Criteria of Science: CONPTT
Experimental procedures, observations, and results are the same.
The phenomenon (event) or evidence for the event can be observed by the human senses or by extensions of those senses.
Accurate predictions and conclusions are based on natural causes NOT on presupposed to assumed information.
Accurate predictions and conclusions are based on natural cases NOT on presupposed or assumed information.
Possible Example: Mrs. Rayburn and Miss Taylor did the same experiment last week. We both planted two flowers in the same area and used fertilizer on B. The B flower grew 2 inches taller for each of us. Our results were CONSISTENT (SAME).
KEY WORD: SAME
See, Taste, Smell, Hear, Feel
Example: Beach vs. Lake
Beach- Taste the water, smell the air and sunscreen, feel the breeze and waves, hear the ocean.
Lake- See the trees, taste the fresh water, hear the sound of cars.
Example: Volcano erupting naturally when conditions are right.
Example: If the air pressure begins to build and the breeze begins to blow cool, based on previous data- it will more than likely rain.
Controlled experiments can be designed to test the natural cause of the event.
Example: If I study 30 minutes every night for Science, will I get an A on the next test?
Explanations (laws, theories, hypotheses) of the cause for the event are subject to change as evidence shows.
Example: We used to believe the Earth was flat due to the Flat Earth Theory. As technology improved and discoveries were made, we realize the Earth is a sphere now.
Subject To Change

MY EXAMPLE: DO NOT DO!
The study of nature and natural phenomena; an observable fact or event; a branch of knowledge that examines the natural world with a body of facts arranged through laws, theories, and hypotheses.
Examples: Chemistry, Astronomy, Biology
What is Science?
Word Description Example
The study of the natural world through facts, events, and testing hypotheses.
