Ice Sledge Hockey History

Invented in Sweden in early 1960’s

Took Ice hockey skates and made a sledge

Played first sledge hockey game on lake south of Stockholm

Played first Paralympics hockey game in 1994

Use short poles to push themselves forward
How it works

Players sit on metal sledges

One of the sides of the sticks has a sharp end

The other side has a curve like a normal hockey stick

Six players on the ice at all times

They play three fifteen minute periods

They use training camps

Before a team practice they stretch and skate

After a team practice they stretch

They sometimes train individually

Training camps also practice sledding
Competition Venues

Some of the competition venues in Vancouver are at Thunderbird Arena and at a Paralympic Center

Some of the competition venues in whistler are at Whistler Creekside and at the Paralympic Park.

Some of the non-competition venues in Vancouver are BC Place and Paralympic Village

Some of the non-competition Venues in Whistler are Medals Plaza and Paralympic Village

To get to the Venues they have to take a plane or car.
