Laws in the U.S.
The most common age in Ohio for children to become victims of trafficking is 13 years old, and the number of Ohio children who become victims of human trafficking each year could fill a large high school.

If you commit the crime of sex trafficking in Delaware, Montana, New Mexico, the offender could face up to 100 years, while in states like California and Oregon an offender may face 8-10 years.
If you commit the crime of sex trafficking in California one could face fifteen years to life and a fine of not more than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000)
• Toledo women sentenced 3 years for taking minor from Michigan to Ohio and forced to do commercial sex
• 16 Year old in Perrysberg, Ohio saved from human trafficking. In the case, a 71 year old man was charged with operating the whole thing
• 2012 the Ohio Human Trafficking Taskforce presented 26 ways they can help recognize and treat victims of human trafficking

"the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purposes of a commercial sex act. A commercial sex act is defined as any sex act in which anything of value is given or received by any person."

Of the American-born youth in Ohio, 2,879 are at risk for domestic minor sex trafficking and another 1,078 have been victims over the course of a year
Ohio ranks 5th in the nation for trafficking
80% of victims recruited in the Miami Valley come from middle class or higher homes

Penalties and Prosecution:

• Obstruction of Justice 2nd degree felony in human trafficking cases
Protections for Victims
• Created a diversion program for juvenile victims of human trafficking
• Judge can sentence to diversion to receive protection and treatment they need through the juvenile justice system
• Prior convictions of prostitution or solicitation may be expunged
• Allows victims to pursue civil damages against a pimp or trafficker

Period of false love in order to attain long-term mind control
After the trafficker is in a strong position
of influence, the grooming process begins
Point at which the trafficker tells the victim that they have a pressing need to make money and that they quickest way is to engage in commercial sex acts

Public campaign led by men, for men, to address the demand side of sex trafficking, why it occurs, and how to recognize the beginning stages and habits associated with buying sex.
Educational program delivered to boys. This program teaches boys how to respect women and themselves. It also addresses the glorification of the pimp culture and how that can perpetuate sex trafficking
