Transcript of Gemstones

Hi, my name is Lily, and today I'll be talking to all of you about 4 gemstones, the Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire and Opal.

The value depends on the clarity, colour, and size/shape. The value of diamonds are very rich, so I decided to compare diamonds and emeralds. The diamond is the most popular, but the emerald is more rare.
Answer: KOOR I NOOR ( The Mountain of light)
The koor i noor is the most famous diamond in the world. It was mentioned in 1304 and it had 186 carats. It was cut like an opal. This diamond now weighs 108.93 carats.

Mohs scale
7.5 0n the mohs scale. along with hardened steel, tungsten, and spinel.
Biggest Emerald
Answer: The Bahia. It has 180,000 carats and costs $400 million dollars. It was found in California,USA, on the 9th July, 2001. The appraised price for the Bahia emerald was $372,000,000.

The finest emeralds have more value than diamonds. The value of emeralds are not judged on clarity. The value of an emerald is determined by the colour, the depth, and the light reflection.
The most finest and best emeralds are in Colombia, Zambia, and Brazil. Chifor and Muzo are the major mining parts in Colombia. Emeralds are also found in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Australia, United States, and in other places too.

Mohs scale
It has a 9.0 on the mo scale.
A sapphire’s value is determined by the colour, the secondary colour, the tone of the colour and the brightness of the colour/hue.
Sapphires come from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Tanzania and Australia.
The best sources of sapphires comes from
Kashmir region of India, and Burma.
Here's a map.
The mohs scale judges how hard a gem or mineral is. The higher the number is, the harder, and the lower the number is, the softer. How the scientists recorded the information, they did a scratch test.
Answer: The rarity of diamonds are based on colour and size. The rarest diamond based on colour is the Blue Ocean Dream Diamond. It is said that it is known for it’s one of a kind colour.
The rarest diamond according to size is the Cullinan Diamond, because it has 3,106 carats.
Largest Diamond
Cullinan diamond: 3,106 carats, found in africa 1905 at the Premier Mine.
it was given to King Edward Vll as a gift for loyalty. There were 8 big pieces, and the rest were small. Three of the big ones were made into a brooches, another was sewed onto a dress, one is in the royal sceptre, another was made into a bracelet, another, the crown, and one more, the ring. There was a ninth one, but it has dissapeared.

Since emeralds are judged on colour, depth and light reflection, a rare emerald could not be yellow or brown, that would be judged badly with the judges. Also, the depth is judged so that it could have a good appearence on the colour, and if the light reflection was bad, it would be not a true emerald.
Mohs scale

The diamond has a 10+ on the mohs scale.
Most diamonds are found in Africa, But they are found all over the world. Here is a map:
Opals are based on the colour, clarity, how it is cut, and the lighting. The colour is sometimes multicolour, but for example, if an opal was blue green, the colour will be green. The colour is judged either dull, bright or brilliant. The shape people want the opal is mostly round or cabochon cut.
BYE BYE!!! :)
