The owl of wisdom!
How does
Browning tell the story?
This question only assesses A02
LANGUAGE,FORM AND STRUCTURE
What's so difficult about this then?
WE HAVE ONLY HALF AN HOUR TO WRITE THE ESSAY!!!!
Let's help each other.
WHAT SHOULD A PARAGRAPH LOOK LIKE?
How to tackle essays on poetry
The essay plan has a very formulaic structure:
INTRODUCTION
What is the story? The introduction is a brief outline of the story of the poem chosen by the examiner.
If the question is about a novel or long poem, the examiner will ask about a chapter or extract. As well as telling the story of this extract, you should also locate its place in the overall story.
What is an introduction?
An introduction is the first thing the examiner will read. Like it or not, they WILL form an assessment of you from it. You should be succinct, articulate and tackle the question head on!
PARAGRAPHS 2 - 6
Tackle the key tools of the writer.
Narrative
Structure
Form
Language
Setting
The mark scheme...
Let's have a go!
5 minutes to write the intro!
Each table will be given a paragraph to write.
Do you PEE? PEA? PEAL?
A great paragraph should:
Open with a TOPIC SENTENCE that clearly identifies the key point you will make.
EVALUATE
to judge or determine the significance, worth or quality of
EVIDENCE
Quotation - not long but short and relevant
EXPAND AND EVALUATE this point by discussing the possible author intention and the impact on the reader.
EVIDENCE your point carefully from the text.
Now, you have 15 minutes to craft a band 6 paragraph! Then upload it to the prezi!
SECTION A PART 1
SECTION A part 2
THE DEBATE QUESTION!
What debates did you come up with for this poem?
TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU CONSIDER THE POEM A LOVE STORY?
POINTS FOR?
POINTS AGAINST?
The argument needn't be even...
Imagine you are trying to convince your parents to let you stay out until 1 am.

Would you present a balanced argument???
We're still aiming for 6 points...
Use your introduction to outline the debate and state your key line of argument.
Use the rest of the essay to make a case whilst demonstrating an awareness of the alternate view (a03)
You must also show a CONTEXTUAL
awareness in this essay.
HALF AN HOUR!!!
ON YOUR TABLES CRAFT A PLAN...
Oh God,
is it nearly over???
Section B - 1 hour
This question tackles 3 texts - you write on each for 20 minutes about ONE key aspect of narrative.
On your tables, decide which aspects of narrative this poem would be good for...
Enough of Porphyria!
MY LAST DUCHESS
On your tables, read the poem and tell me the story!
What similarities do you see with PL?
