Emily Dickinson Born in Armerst,Massachusettes Studed at the Armerst Academy for seven years. Spent a short time at Mount Holyduc Female Seminary. After that came home & stayed. Poetry Her poetry was unique for the era in which she wrote Contain short lines Typically like titles often use Slant Rhyme unconventional capitalization & punctuntian Dealt with themes of Death & Immortality Her works include BecauSe I could not stop death I heard a fly buzz wheN I died If I could stop one heart from breaking Nobody Knows this little rose only published 1/4 of her poetry while alive Her Death: May 15, 1886 Her younger sister Lavinia discovered the collection of nearly eighteen hundred poems, Dickinson's first volume was published four years after her death. Because I could not stop for death, He kindly stopped for me; The carriage held but just ourselves and immortality. We passed the fields of gazing grain
We passed the setting sun. What portion of me be
Assignable -- and then it was
There interposed a Fly --
If I can ease one Life the Aching
Or cool one Pain Nobody knows this little Rose --
It might a pilgrim be
Did I not take it from the ways
And lift it up to thee Heart, we will forget him. Heart! We will forget him!
You and I -- tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave --
I will forget the light!
