Transcript of Heaven On Earth

Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902)
Mount Rainier According to aradergalleries.com, Mount Rainier was probably created on his last journey. It dramatizes the sheer majesty of the 14,410 foot volcanic peak in Washington's Cascade Range in a view looking southeast across the Puyallup River. The two canoes traveling along the lenght of the river appear in haromony with the magnificent natural setting, although it is implied that the arrival of the white man will change all of this. In Theodore Winthrop's discussion of the mountain in the 1862 publication of Canoe and Saddle Winthrop also wrote, "No foot of man had ever trampled those pure snows. It was a virginal mountain, distant from the possibility of human approach and human inquisitiveness as a marble goddess is from human loves." "Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California" 10 feet wide Sun rays suggest a heavenly consecration of the land. Deer and Waterfowl The Buffalo Trail Cathedral Forest Autumn in America Oneida County, New York Kings River Canyon, California "Only after the last tree has been cut down,
only after the last river has been poisoned,
only after the last fish has been caught,
only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten."
