"The four-syllabic phrase, “I love you Mike” sends a clear and direct message to the readers. This is the short story – this is as real as it could be."
John Louie Ramos
The story tells us about friendship, equality and the right to love and be loved whatever gender preference a person has.
A program officer of an NGO. He is a admitted gay who fell in love with Mike.
He is a journalist.
He cannot tell whether he is gay or not because of his admiration to Benjie.
Benjie’s officemate who was always bugging Mike because of her interest in his life.
Mike’s last girlfriend for two years (now, ex-girlfriend).
She was introduced to Benjie and she looked more beautiful than Carmi Martin.
Benjie's mother. Her death caused Benjie's world to crumble.
Los Baños, Laguna
Mike was handsome and modeled a macho butt. Joana kept asking Benjie if he had noticed Mike. Benjie and Mike met at that media party.
The Zambales trip.
It was their first trip together as a team. Still, Joana kept asking Mike questions beyond work matters.
The Nanette Medved and Dawn Zulueta.
Mike introduced Carmi, his ex-girlfriend, to Benjie. Benji got depressed and felt that Mike is still in love with Carmi.
Benjie said to himself that there is really nothing wrong if we become friends. The problem would be if he allow himself to fall for Mike.
He couldn't finish his works because he was sick, his precious diskette was infected by a virus, her sister was victimized by the akyat-bahay gang and lastly, Carmi said goodbye because she was leaving for the States.
Mike was upset. He had consumed one bottle too many at Benjie's apartment. Mike was so helpless that he needed Benjie's comfort and that night,
Benjie kissed Mike on the lips
before they slept.
The ward off.
Benjie started avoiding Mike.
"I love you, Mike."
Benjie told Mike. That's all and Benjie did not speak again. Benjie confessed and that brought Mike into thinking.
Benjie's mother died and this caused him to fall apart. Mike being concerned, offered himself as a friend to lean on.
"Invite him to share apartment with me? If he says yes, I would have - we would both have - the chance to deepen our relationship. If he says no, let it be. I'm used to living alone anyway."
"This is my plan: I would ask if it's possible for me to share his apartment. If he says yes, then I would be able to really determine what I want - and what we want - to happen to our relationship. If I want to live with him for a long time. If I love him, too. If not, we'll still be friends."

"It's painful to be rejected. Especially when you both started out as friends. Not only will you be brokenhearted; you'd also end up feeling guilty betraying a dear friend and destroying a beautiful friendship."
