Jake Temple World War I Timeline and Facts World War 1 Begins Troops and Trenches World War one is triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his pregnant wife Sophie on the 28th of June

Germany declares war on Russia, France and Poland

At the beginning of August 1914 Britain declares war on Germany. On the 6th of April 1917 the U.S.A joins the war. Germany sunk the U.S.S Lusitania not a month earlier.

The American government asked for a mere 100,000 troops for the entire war. Instead they had 750,000 volunteers in the first month!

The U.S.A Joins the War
On November 11th at 11:00am war in the trenches ceased. This was made possible by two major treaties.

The treaty of Brest-Litovsk is signed with officially brings an end to the war between Russia and Germany.

Turkey surrender by signing the Armistice of Mudros. The War Ends. World War 1 was the first war to use chemical warfare. (Mustard Gas)

It was also the first world war to use planes for combat.

In a mere four years, half of all Britains trade vessels are destroyed. Equipment A total of 65 million troops were invloved in
World War 1

8 Million of them died, 21 million were wounded.

The trenches that over 150,000 chinese laborers
built were infested with rats, frogs and lice.
