Prezi&Summarization: Teresa Summarization Delighted Jonas wanted to see his father release a newchild, but he thought he couldn't. However, The Giver considered that Jonas was the new Receiver, he should see the video. They watched the video through a screen. Curious In the video, Jonas' father and his assistant were in a small windowless room. His father weighed two newchild and picked the thinner one. Jonas thought his father would cleaned the newchild up and made him comfy. Shocked Jonas' father directed the needle into the top of the newchild's forehead. he pushed the plunger and injected the liquid into the newchild's scalp vein. Numb The newchild went limp, and became still. Jonas recognized the gestures and posture and expression. Then he remembered the bloodied soldier again. Jonas realized that his father killed the newchild. ? Jonas' father loaded the carton containing the body into the chute and gave it a shove. He cried. The Pathetique Sonata Beethoven By Teresa Pathos A quality that arouses emotions (especially pity or sorrow) Delighted Curious Shocked Numb Pathos
Feeling Summarization Jonas' Feelings Part One Questions Part Two By Amber Q1:What did Jonas think about the Release before he knew the truth? A: He thought maybe they’d have it in the Auditorium, so that everybody could come. All the Old go to Ceremonies of Release. Q2:When Jonas knew that father cheated him ( his father killed child ), what was he probably thinking about? A:“He killed him! He told lies. Is not this community is completely different with my original thought? People kill people, but they did not know the truth, and this community is horrible. Is everyone in the community lying?” Q3: At that time, would he feel that the community is completely different from community in his memory? A: I think so. He may wonder if everybody told lies. He gradually no longer believed in the original that the world he knew. Q4: Why could Jonas feel these pain? A: He didn't take the pill which could repress his emotion. In order to experience the feeling ( love, sadness…) clearly. Vocabulary Part Three By Guele Hesitate: pause or hold back in uncertainty or unwillingness Numbly: in a numb manner; without feeling Nurture: the properties acquired as a consequence of the way you were treated as a child Fascinated: having your attention fixated as though by a spell Sympathetically: with respect to the sympathetic nervous system Connections Part Four By Teresa & Andy & Amber Teresa: In the novel, "the Hall of Closed Records" let me think of some secret organizations such as FBI, CIA and "the department concerned" in China. They often deal with some important things secretly. I am very curious about them. But we have no chance to get close to them. Text-to-text e.g. If you hesitate too long, you will miss the opportunity. e.g. The tree grows well in his nurture. e.g. This child was fascinated by the plots in the novel . e.g. They were all sympathetically disposed towards her bitter experience . e.g. Kunta lay numbly, in a kind of stupor. Text-to-world Andy: In a science friction movie that describe a island with clones. The island provides organs for rich people. The clones in the island were told that at a point of their lives, they will be take to a place called "heaven". Everyone was look forward for "heaven". But in the movie, the clones were took to "heaven" because of the man who they were cloned by had some need of their organs. And they will be killed. This is quite like to the "release" in the novel. Text-to-self Amber: “He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing. He continued to stare at the screen numbly.” After birth, because of the things around us, we will gradually have our own independent thought, build our own outlook on life, values. For example, I heard that a four-year-old girl helped her mother to steal things in a store. The girl attracted attention of the clerk. This news has shocked me for a long time, I was deeply sad. I can not believe that, under the girl’s cute appearance, she was doing such a thing, though she did not own thoughts.
