Transcript of The Cell Theory!

The cell theory grew out of the work of many scientists and improvements in the microscope

Many scientists contributed to the cell theory!
The cell Theory!
Robert Hooke was the first person to look at cells and name them.
Robert Hooke
Under the microscope the cork looked like empty chambers and reminded him of the small rooms in a monastery
Cork comes from the bark of a tree, so Hooke was looking at dead plant cells.
Credited with discovering the microscope, though many people around the world were using similar inventions
Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
He looked at cork cells; which are non-living
Schleiden was a botanist (Scientist who studies plants)
Found that plant parts were made of cells.

THEREFORE:
ALL PLANTS ARE MADE OF CELLS!
Matthias Schleiden
Studied animals. His microscope investigations of animal parts led him to generalize that ALL ANIMALS ARE MADE OF CELLS!

Therefore.... all organisms are made of cells
Theodor Schwann
said side burns
Virchow said that:
Plant cells arise only from existing plant cells AND
Animal cells arise only from existing animal cells
Rudolf Virchow
Cells are the basic unit of life
THE CEll Theory!
Cells come from existing cells
All organisms are composed of 1 or more cells
Eukaryote
Eukaryotic:
Eu=True/good
Karyon= Nut/Kernel
2 types of cells
Prokaryotic:
Pro=Before
Karyon= Nut/Kernel
