Research is the foundation you need in which to build your thesis upon. Without it your thesis will be weak and unfocused.
What is your purpose?
Summarize and Conclusion
After a general search of information to support your thesis, write a sentence that summarizes the importance of the information you've found. Remember, you need to determine the strongest overall reason for taking your position.
Devoloping Your Thesis Statement
Finally, create a working thesis
Use one of the following formulas for writing your thesis:
1. Claim+Reason+Position=Thesis
2. Qualification+Reason+Position=Thesis

and developing a sound thesis gives you direction before researching and writing your extended essay.
