A serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless, and unimportant and often is unable to live in a normal way
What causes it?
Academic stress
ex) Kate is feeling pressure about getting into MIT. Kate only applied to ONE college, that why she is so stressed.

ex) Kate's mother died when she was little

ex) Mickey dies
Senior Kate Malone a preachers daughter, exceptional runner, and straight A student, finds herself loosing control of her life during senior year. She not only gets rejected from her dream college, her life long enemy Teri Litch ends up moving in with her family due to a family crisis.

Kate now has to worry about where she is going to college, and also has to worry about not losing her temper with Teri.

Teri's son Mikey dies in an accident, and Teri goes on a rampage of destruction. Kate has to try and calm Teri down, they eventually come to an understanding of each other, and Kate decides to take college of for a year to help Teri rebuild her house.


Social Issue Continued
Symptoms:
Constant feeling of sadness, and mixed emotions
Sleep patterns are disrupted
ex) Kate goes running at night to try to calm herself down.
Patients may lose interest in hobbies they once enjoyed
ex) Kate loses interest in chemistry. Her mind wonders off. Before, she was excited to go to class and learn more.
How to deal with Depression:
Talk about the problems that are occurring in your life.
Get out of the house, be active

Sometimes words in the book were confusing. The author switched views between "Good Kate" and "Bad Kate".

This was not my favorite book, but it was interesting. Different views made it confusing, but other than that it was a intriguing novel.
I thought the book came across as a perfect example of how teens can crack from being under the pressure of a million different things.
