Members only access to data

Public access to participation rates
Tips:
Use 3 separate questions to let parents indicate elementary, middle and high schools. Otherwise, participation data will not reflect parents with students at multiple school levels and the schools "fight" for the parent.
Remember to set the form's confirmation message to include the event information for parents to add to their personal calendars.
Don't collect paper forms! Have schools enter data into online form when they receive it.
Create form questions in the order you want them in your spreadsheet. New questions go to the end of sheet (even though you can re-order them in the form).
Tips:
Limit the number of people who can edit data. Instead, give key people view only privileges.
Save a copy of the English registration spreadsheet (with form), and share this one with your district translator so s/he can convert it to Spanish.
Tips:
Protect parent info - ONLY publish a totals page or embed a graph gadget in a separate webpage. Do NOT publish all pages.
If you provided a separate Spanish registration form, use the "Import Range" formula to include these numbers in your totals page.
If you let parents indicate multiple schools, you can't get a grand total from your school totals. Instead, use the "CountA" formula to count total # of names in the registration page.

Schools that succeed in engaging families from diverse backgrounds share three key practices:

Focus on building trusting, collaborative relationships among teachers, families and community members
Recognize, respect and address families' needs, as well as class and cultural differences
Embrace a philosophy of partnership where power and responsibility are shared

(Mapp, 2002; see also Chrispeels and Rivero, 2000 )
