At College of the Canyons' beautiful Canyon Country Campus
Quickly became a beloved community event
HISTORY
Fueled partnerships with student clubs, local astronomy groups, and area schools
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Friday, May 2nd at CCC, from 7:30-10:00 pm
SPRING 2014 STAR PARTY
Participants will enjoy a demonstration about meteor impacts in a variety of atmospheres
TOPIC HIGHLIGHTS
Highlight COC facilities at the Canyon Country Campus
ONGOING ROLE
Events such as the Star Party at CCC provide the opportunity to:
Featured various planets and astronomical wonders
Acclimated students, staff, and community partners to attending events at CCC
Featured COC faculty and acclaimed scientists
8 Parties completed and NO rain yet!
Raised awareness of STEM-field disciplines
Raised scholarship money for the Dr. Ram Manvi Memorial Scholarship
Raised interest in future planetarium and science building
Clear skies and good company!
Featuring a science lesson, overview of the math/sciences division, a lecture on "exoplanets", and an overview of the JWST
Speaker: Dr. Charles Beichman,
Executive Director, NASA ExoPlanet Science Institute, CalTech
A discussion of exoplanets outside the solar system, including gas giants, ice giants, hot-super-Earths, and how astronomers can detect them (JWST)
Increase opportunities to highlight COC instructional programs and services
Feature science experiments and lessons
Increase outreach to local schools
Free and open to everyone
Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and family
Food/beverages available for purchase
Showcase the beautiful campus
Invite the community on-grounds

Increase the awareness of astronomy, physics, and STEM-disciplines
Demonstrate the breadth/depth of instructional programming and services available
Increase outreach with schools and the community
Garner support and excitement for the campus and future initiatives such as the Planetarium and future Science building
