Transcript of White Roof Project: Overview
Double click anywhere & add an idea Let's start with the science behind painting roofs white.
We have a pretty infographic to share with you that explains the nuts and bolts. So let's talk about what this means for our home, New York City.
New York City is 12% roof tops!
Painting all of those white will
make a huge difference in the
temperature and reduce the Urban Heat Island effect.
An Urban Heat Island happens when you have a proliferation of black tar surfaces - like rooftops - in one area. Black surfaces trap heat. This extra heat is bad for the quality of your air. White roofs trap far less heat which is better for the whole city. Let's compare a black roof to a white roof and talk about the tangible benefits offered by white roofs. So what can White Roof Project do
for your community? It's simple.
White Roof Project
can provide subsidized
solar reflective white paint.
This paint reflects 90% of sunlight.
The paint keeps the internal temperature of the building
up to 35 degrees cooler and can lower your summer energy
costs by up to 40%.
Solar-reflective white coating also extends the life of the roof by preventing heat related warping and cracking. Painting has to happen during the day, and only during the warmer months of the year. Hello! We're from: So why are we here?
We're here to save you some money, save some energy, and save the planet. Today, we're going to:
Explain a little bit about why painting roofs white makes good sense for you, for our city, and for the planet
Talk about what White Roof Project can do for you and your roof
Answer any questions you may have about our program In the fight against climate change, roofs have been getting a lot of attention:
"Cool roofs are one of the quickest and lowest-cost ways we can reduce our global carbon emissions and begin the hard work of slowing climate change"
Nobel-Prize Winner Steven Chu,
Our current Energy Secretary The good news is, all of this adds up to a ton of energy savings for you and me. Thanks! Now it's time for questions You can find all of this information and more on our website:
