When the riots against tyranny erupted in Egpyt,
the government's first move was to turn off the internet.

What is it?
Anonymity allows internet users to travel and write on the internet without having to reveal their identity.
This allows great protection for the person's ideas and opinions
In a free society it is important that the free exchange of ideas exists.
The Supreme Court has consistently held that anonymous and pseudonymous speech is protected by the First Amendment.
"Anonymous pamphlets, leaflets, brochures and even books have played an important role in the progress of mankind."
"Anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority."
The first amendment was created to protect unpopular speech.

To fight the oppressive regime, citizens were using social websites to organize their rallies.
Without the anonymous protection of the internet, the revolution leaders would have been discovered and crushed by the government.

The goal is to condense all of one's usernames and passswords into a single account linked to actual identity
Why is this a bad thing?
An "all encompasing" ID is a key for disater.
It Creates a singlepoint where all of our information is behind one door, instead of dispersed throuhout several accounts.
An Identity Thief with your password would have access to everything behind that door.
It would give the government too much legal power
If one was ever suspected of a crime, all the USA would have to do is get a warrant for the single account and have access to the person's entire internet history
The National ID would also hurt Free Speech and destroy Internet Anonymity
