St. Norbert College Study Abroad A light and simple overview of navigating the application process Applying Excellent! You're ready to apply to your study abroad program. At this point, you should have already met with your study abroad advisor and selected your program. Navigate to the study abroad web site (www.snc.edu/studyabroad). Search for your program. Once you have found your study abroad program, click the "Apply Now" button. If it's your first time applying, you must complete the New User Form to create an account. Your log-in information will be sent to your email address. Check your email, retrieve your log-in information, and access your online account. 1 2 Let's take a moment to get acquainted with the online application. In most cases, there are 4 types of documents. Items that you upload and questionnaires that you complete online. Materials that you submit to Study Abroad or the Registrar. Documents that you sign electronically. Recommendations that are emailed to faculty and completed online. Before you start to work on your application documents, please complete your Profile. To complete your Profile, you need to focus on three tabs:
1. Profile; 2. Information; and 3. Address Info. Okay, now you may start working on your application documents. 3 Remember, the application for each study abroad program is slightly different. Let's take a look at some of the common items. Complete the items in any order that you prefer. We're going to look at the Application Questionnaires first. For your Essay, simply upload your Word document using the file folder icon. The same thing can be done for the scanned copy of your passport. Once uploaded, the Essay and Passport Documentation will be marked as completed. The Application and Pre-Departure Survey will take you less than 10 minutes to complete. After you complete each online form, the items will be marked as completed. Let's progress to the Material Submissions. Requesting and submitting your transcript is easy. Click on "Transcript" and helpful instructions will appear. Access KnightLine, request an official copy of your transcript, and it will automatically be sent to the Study Abroad Office (for free!). Most students get all of their courses pre-approved for credit transfer before they depart. One of the most important documents in the application process is your Course Approval Form. Print the form. Complete the personal information at the top. Find the course list for your study abroad program. Write the course number and course name for the courses that you're interested in. How do you want the course to transfer back to SNC? Write the SNC code . If you want to satisfy a Gen Ed or a concentration area emphasis, list the Gen Ed (ie: GS11) or area (ie: BUAD Marketing or COME Media) . Use the lists of pre-approved courses as a guide:
http://www.snc.edu/studyabroad/about/courses.html Your advisor must sign your form. If you're an INTL or IBLS major, you must also have the discipline coordinator sign your form. After you sign your form, drop it off at the Registrar for processing. Onto your Signature Documents! You need to verify (via your digital signature) that you've read our policies. Once you sign the item, it will be marked as completed. Recommendations are easy to request. After asking your professor if (s)he will complete your recommendation, simply send the form to your professor electronically. Once your professor completes the form, the item will be marked as completed. There's a very good chance that you will have additional program-specific application documents to work on, including: Program Application Disciplinary Form Passport/ID Photos Additional/Different Recommendation Forms Housing Application Once all of your items are marked as completed, your study abroad advisor will review your application. 4 Your acceptance decision will be announced shortly after the application deadline. Visit your online account to view the decision and your decision letter. Please continue if you have been accepted. You need to commit to your study abroad program OR decline your acceptance. You're accepted. You've committed. Now it's time to tackle the Post-Decision items that appear on your online account. Let's take a look. You've got three additional Application Questionnaires to complete. Pre-Departure Feedback:
Complete this form AFTER the pre-departure orientation. Let us know how we did. Course Approval Form (Processed):
About three weeks after the application deadline, the Registrar will post your processed Course Approval Form to your account. Review it! Medical Report:
You can complete this right away. You've got three additional Signature Documents to complete, too. Pre-Departure Orientation Agreement:
Verify that you've received and reviewed the pre-departure information. Review of KnightLine Registration:
Three weeks after the deadline, you should see a 12-credit placeholder for your semester abroad. View the instructions on your account for specific details. Review of Course Approval Form:
Check to see if you received the pre-approvals that you wanted. Again, view your account for detailed information. It's possible that you may have additional Post-Decision documents to complete on your online account and/or for your study abroad program.
Please complete all Post-Decision documents in a timely manner. Don't forget, we've got several helpful resources online. You're finished!
