www.youtube.com Interactive Games (Adventure games) are characterized by their highly narrative nature allowing the creation of flow through the use of intrinsic motivation. Narrative or story-based games can both help engage students and to provided a suitable framework for educational content that fosters learning by doing. These games usually posse an increasing difficulty, allowing the player to slowly understand the game logic and internal assumptions. Games can foster reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. Furthermore, adventure games can be used for role-play where the students can experience situations of the real life in a specific language (a.k.a. contextual learning). A student as a player interacts with the narrative through a computer program that parses the text responses of the player and advances the game accordingly. This type of experience lends itself well to the practice of second language learning, providing contexts from which students must consider the goals in the environment and to act using language to achieve those goals.
