Matter
Solids
Liquids
Gases
What is Matter
Plasma
Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass.
Bose-Einstein Condensate
Fermionic Condensate
Mass is the amount of matter something contains.
States of Matter
The arrangement of particles of matter determine their state.
Particles of matter are always moving!
Particles in a solid are close together. A solid is matter that has a definite shape and takes up a definite amount of space.
Does it matter?

Particles in a liquid are able to slide past each other. They do not stay in one place like a solid. A liquid is matter that takes the shape of its container and takes up a definite amount of space.
Particles in a gas are moving much faster than in a liquid. Particles in a gas always try and spread out. A gas is matter that fills the shape of its container and if the container is open gas particles will move out of the container.
Plasma is very similar to a gas, but energy (heat or electricity) has changed the particles. Plasma is found in stars, fluorescent lightbulbs and neon signs.
These two states of matter are very similar and occur when it is very cold, so cold that the particles almost stop moving. They have just been discovered in the past 30 years.
