Clinical logbooks and personal portfolios, which allow students to identify strengths and weaknesses and to focus their learning appropriately, can provide such information. Using these will emphasise the importance of maintaining a portfolio of evidence of achievement, which will be necessary once they have become doctors and their licence to practise is regularly revalidated." “blends of online and face-to-face instruction...[and] conventional face-to-face ...[training], blended instruction has been more effective, providing a rationale for the effort required to design and implement blended approaches. Even when used by itself, online learning appears to offer a modest advantage over conventional classroom instruction”.
http://www.ed.gov/rschstat/eval/tech/evidence-based-practices/finalreport.pdf Blended learning is combination of different methods of learning – including non eLearning ones. So a typical blend might be:
some preparatory eLearning online
a face-to-face session facilitated by subject experts
practice in the field
some online self study with peer support via a professional learning community
