B2ME - Using a Social Media PR Strategy
to Land Your Next Job
Presented by Ann Marie and Ed Mayuga
With 19 job-seekers for every opening in St. Louis...
This requires a paradigm shift in the way you market yourself!
Think of yourself as self-employed...
In a service-business.
A company will hire you for the benefits it receives from your business...
The only way the company will know about your business is through marketing!
And that is more than just your resume.
You need to be your own publicist for B2ME - "Business-to-Me"
How many of you are familiar with public relations? (Show of hands)
What is your definition of PR?
Have any of you used social media for your own PR? Any examples?
What we will cover today...
BTW: This presentation is available at http://ammcommunications.com/capabilities/
1) Be your own publicist for B2ME
2) Manage your online image using social media tools
3) Build and utilize your online social network
4) Market your expertise and build credibility with prospective employers
Our goal today: To give you at least 3 ideas you can implement tomorrow!
You may remember this acronym from Ed's presentation - BVP
BRIGHT
VERBAL
PROFESSIONAL
Keep this in mind as you develop your own PR strategic plan!

Ditto what Ann Marie said
We are expert communicators that help our clients' businesses grow!
1) Be your own publicist for B2ME
Definition of PR: Using the news or business press to carry positive messages about your business
Use a Third Party Endorsement - Treat yourself as a client of your own PR firm
Position your business as an expert on topics that are important to your prospective employer
BE SPECIFIC!
What 3 skills do you want to promote?
What is your business plan?
Communications MUST also BE CONSISTENT!
Look at your various profiles:
Resume
Elevator speech
LinkedIn, Facebook etc.
Comments you have on the Web
This is the same process we use with clients!
2) Manage your online image using social media tools
Engaging in your targeted industry
Join and interact within Linked In Groups
Here is a link to our group: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=3141142&trk=hb_side_g

Use Twitter - Set up personal (@ammayuga) and industry-related (@stlpr) handles
Using Twitter, LinkedIn updates, blog comments are all opportunities to make smart, thoughtful comments!
3) Build and utilize your online social networks
LinkedIn Recommendations - Guide your recommenders to write about the skills that you want to promote
ReTweet (RT) Industry News
"Like" the Facebook Fan Pages and Follow the LinkedIn Company Pages of places you want to work
Give recommenders guidance, but don't tell them what to say!
4} Market your expertise and build credibility with prospective employers

Research - Find out what companies are saying on their Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, blogs etc. before you interview
Show them how BRIGHT you are by leaving thoughtful comments
Go to an industry meeting or presentation that might be hosted by the company to show them how PROFESSIONAL you are
Comment about the meeting afterwards to provide insight and show them how VERBAL you are
Consider writing a blog that shows how BRIGHT VERBAL and PROFESSIONAL you are!
